Jewelry & watch packaging · MOQ 100 pcs on rigid structures

Weight, safety, and the reveal

Jewelry packaging is decided by things a photograph cannot show: how the piece sits, how heavy the box feels in the hand, and whether it can be opened twice without looking handled. A rigid magnetic box runs $1.50 – 2.30 per piece at 500 pcs and a friction-fit lid & base box runs $1.20 – 1.80; the tray and the finishing are what separate one brand's box from another's at the same price.

Range

Three layers, and you rarely need all three

The box, the insert that holds the piece, and the bag it leaves the counter in. Most jewelry programmes start with the box and the insert together, and add the pouch or the paper bag only once the box is settled — because the box and the insert are cut from the same specification, and getting one right without the other usually means paying twice.

What this industry actually needs

Weight, safety, and the reveal

Jewelry packaging is decided by three things that have nothing to do with how the box looks in a photograph. Get them wrong and the box is either too light to feel precious, too slow to pack, or a theft risk between the bench and the counter.

1. The insert, not the shell

Two boxes can quote at the same price and differ by 40% in perceived value, because the difference is inside. A magnetic box with a die-cut foam tray at $1.50 reads as a box; the same shell with a hand-wrapped velvet platform reads as a case. Budget for the insert first and the shell second — the shell is the easier of the two to change later.

2. Safety is a specification

High-unit-value stock moves through the same warehouse as everything else. If the box is going to sit on a shelf in a multi-brand store, ask for a closure that cannot fall open in transit and a shipper that does not announce what is inside. We quote the outer shipper separately for exactly this reason, rather than treating it as an afterthought.

3. Counter and hand-over

A box that will be shown on a counter needs a face that stands up under shop lighting, and a carrier for the customer to leave with. A ribbon-handle paper bag at $0.43–0.73 per piece at 300 pcs is usually the cheapest part of the programme and the one customers touch last, which is why it is worth specifying at the same time as the box.

Insert typeIndicativeWhat it is, and when it is worth it
Foam tray, die-cutIncluded in the box priceThe entry option. Cut to your outline, holds one piece, cheapest to tool.
Velvet-wrapped EVAQuoted as its own lineThe industry default. Wrap must be applied by hand, so cost scales with the number of cavities, not with box size.
Satin-lined platformQuoted as its own lineA raised platform for a necklace or a watch, with a hidden recess under it for the certificate and the cloth.
Removable multi-cavity insertQuoted as its own lineOne box that ships a ring, a bracelet and a chain set. Costs more to build, and pays for itself the first time a collection changes shape.
Insert pricing depends on the number of cavities and the wrap, not on box size. Send the finished piece weight and outline and we will price the tray against it.

Jewelry packaging FAQ

Before you brief a jewelry box

Inserts, cost drivers and the two specifications that decide most jewelry packaging orders.

Why does a jewelry box cost more than a similarly sized gift box?
Because of what happens inside it. A $1.50–2.30 magnetic box and a $0.28–0.75 folding box can use comparable board and comparable print; the difference is a greyboard shell, wrapped corners, a hidden magnet set and a tray that has to be cut and wrapped by hand. If your piece is light and the packaging is mostly a carrier, a folding structure will do the job for a third of the price. If the box is part of the price the customer pays, the rigid shell is what buys that.
Can one box hold a ring, a bracelet and a necklace set?
Yes, and it is the most common thing we build for jewelry brands, because a single specification covering several SKUs is cheaper than three. The usual answer is a magnetic box with a removable multi-cavity insert: the insert carries the ring and bracelet, and lifts out to leave a recess for a necklace and its certificate. The box itself stays identical all season, so only the insert is re-cut when the collection changes.
Do you cut the insert to our actual product, or to a standard size?
To your actual product. Send the finished weight and the outline of the piece — including the clasp, the chain drop and any box or pouch the piece already sits in — and the tray is cut to that outline. A tray cut to a nominal size is the single most common reason a jewelry box arrives and the product rattles in it, and re-cutting a die is a separate cost that nobody wants to pay twice.
Can the box be made without any visible branding?
Yes. Plenty of jewelry programmes ship in unmarked boxes on purpose, and it changes nothing about the structure or the price — only the artwork. If you want the box to look anonymous outside but carry your mark inside the lid, that is a common specification too, and it is worth saying so at quote stage rather than after the die is cut.
