Range

Three structures cover most food brands

A bakery, a chocolatier and a meal-kit subscription need different things from the same box: grease resistance, a visible product, or compartments that keep components apart. We quote all three against one board, coating and print specification so the comparison is honest.

Structure 01

Tuck-top patisserie box: the board is the barrier

A tuck-top box is a single die-cut sheet that folds and locks without glue. That matters in food packaging for two practical reasons: no adhesive or tape is held against the product, and the box travels and stores flat, so a bakery with a small back room can keep six sizes on a shelf.

Grease resistance comes from the board and the coating, not from the print. An aqueous barrier coating or a PLA dispersion is the plastic-free route; a separate liner board is the alternative when the product is genuinely oily. Which one you need is decided by the food, the temperature and the dwell time — so we ask, and then we test with a sample of your product.

  • Grease-resistant coating — plastic-free aqueous or PLA options
  • Direct-food-contact board selected for the food you actually pack
  • Self-locking base, so no glue sits against the food
  • Print on the outer surface; food-contact surfaces stay plain unless specified

Structure 02

Meal-kit trays and compartments: keep the wet away from the dry

The failure in meal-kit packaging is rarely the box. It is a sauce sachet that leaks into the dry components, or a tray that collapses under a stacked pallet. We design the tray with a rim, a fold or a separate compartment so each component stays where it was packed.

Inserts are die-cut board by default, because board is inexpensive, recyclable and can take a grease-resistant liner where one component is oily. Where a component needs a real physical barrier, we quote a food-safe insert as its own line rather than burying it in the unit price.

  • Die-cut board dividers, sleeves and tray-with-rim formats
  • Corrugated tray for bulk transport, folding tray for the customer-facing pack
  • Right-sized tray so components cannot shift in transit
  • Every insert priced separately, so you can drop one and see the saving

Structure 03

Date and chocolate gift boxes for the Ramadan and Eid peak

Dates, chocolate and seasonal sweets are the second annual packaging peak for Gulf and Southeast Asian brands, after the Q4 gifting season. Production slots for the gift box and the food-contact tray should be booked well ahead: artwork needs to be locked 4–6 months before the season, and foil, embossed and velvet-tray formats need a physical sample before that.

The structure is normally a rigid gift box with a die-cut tray inside, so the food never touches the printed or foiled surface. That separation is what makes a premium-looking gift box food-safe in practice: the outside carries the branding, the inside carries the food.

  • Rigid gift box with a food-safe die-cut or moulded tray
  • Gold foil, emboss, soft-touch lamination and Arabic-ready layouts
  • Gift box and tray quoted separately, so you can trade between them
  • Book production 4–6 months before Ramadan or Eid

Compliance

What we can document, and what you should ask for

Food-contact compliance is destination-specific. There is no single certificate that covers every board, coating and ink, so we work to the specification written into your quote rather than to a logo on a website.

We will supply the destination market's required declarations and migration test documents for the exact board, coating and ink in your specification. The document set is therefore issued against the specification in your quote — not a generic one that happens to have our name on it.

Ask for the current certificate for the exact material you are buying. Certificates change with the board grade, the coating supplier and the ink, so a document issued for a different board is not evidence for yours. Tell us the market you are selling into at brief stage and we will tell you which documents we can provide for that specification, and which requirements sit with the brand owner.

Where your market requires test reports from an accredited laboratory, migration testing is ordered and invoiced as its own line, because it is performed per product and per specification. We will not present a lab report as covering a material it was not tested on.

  • Your quote states the exact board, coating and ink assumed
  • Declarations and migration-test documents issued against that specification
  • Market requirements taken at brief stage — US, EU and GCC markets differ
  • If a specification cannot be met in your market, we say so before you pay for a sample
  • Food-contact surfaces stay unprinted unless you specify otherwise in writing

Ask for the current certificate for the exact board, coating or ink in your specification. We do not hold a single certification that covers this whole range, and we will not imply that we do.

Coatings & finishing

Finishing that respects the food-contact surface

Decorating the outside is straightforward. Decorating anything the food touches is a different conversation, and we keep the two separate on the quote.

Soft-touch lamination on the outer surface
Patisserie, chocolate, gifting

Soft-touch lamination on the outer surface

Lamination is applied to the printed outer surface, never to the food-contact side. That is how a food box can look like premium gifting while the inside stays a plain board surface.

Hot foil on non-contact surfaces
Date and chocolate gift boxes

Hot foil on non-contact surfaces

Foil is decoration on the outside or on a tray margin. Where the food actually sits, the surface stays plain board or a food-safe liner.

Food-grade FAQ

Before you order a food-grade box

The questions buyers ask us before they ask a factory. We would rather answer them honestly now.

Do you hold food-contact certification for these boxes?
We do not claim a blanket certification for food-grade packaging, because there is no single certificate that covers every board, coating and ink combination. What we will do is supply the destination market's required declarations and migration test documents for the exact board, coating and ink in your specification. Ask for the current certificate for the exact material you are buying, and we will send the document that matches your specification — including where the honest answer is that a given coating is not suitable for your market.
What is the minimum order for food-grade boxes?
500 pcs for a custom size and print, which is the factory norm for this category; across the industry the usual range is 500–1,000 pcs. Grease-resistant coatings, liners and die-cut inserts are quoted as their own lines, so the MOQ applies to the box itself rather than to the whole specification.
How do I stop grease marking the box?
Change the barrier, not the print. An aqueous or PLA grease-resistant coating, a coated board grade, or a separate liner board are the three routes, and each is priced differently. Which one you need depends on the food, its temperature and how long it sits in the box, so we test with a sample of your actual product before the bulk run instead of guessing from a board data sheet.
Can I print on the inside of a food box?
Yes, on the outer or the inner surface, priced as its own line because it is a separate pass through the press. Where a surface actually touches food, interior print has to be specified against the food-contact requirement for your market, so tell us what goes in the box before we quote that surface.
Can you supply date and chocolate gift boxes for Ramadan and Eid?
Yes, and the planning matters more than the box. Production slots for the season fill months in advance, artwork should be locked 4–6 months before the season, and a rigid outer box with a food-safe tray needs a physical sample before the bulk run. The gift box is priced from the rigid box range; the tray, liner and any foil work on the food-contact surface are quoted separately.
