Rigid gift boxes that feel worth what is inside

Three structures cover almost every premium gifting need: magnetic closure for the reveal, sliding drawer for jewellery and watches, and lid and base for volume programmes. Every one is built to your dimensions — no stock dies — with foil, embossing, soft-touch lamination and inserts cut around your product.

Three structures, one budget conversation

Choose on the experience you want the customer to have, then let the quote tell you what it costs. We quote all three against the same specification so the comparison is honest.

Magnetic rigid gift boxBestseller

Magnetic rigid gift box

Hidden magnets set into the board so the lid snaps shut with no visible closure. The strongest reveal in the rigid family, and the structure most D2C brands choose for a launch or a gift set.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • ClosingHidden magnets + ribbon pull
  • Best forBeauty, gifting, retail
Sliding drawer boxReveal

Sliding drawer box

A drawer that glides out to present the product, usually on a velvet or foam tray. Jewellery, watches and fragrance benefit most, because the product appears before the box does.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @1,000 pcs$0.80 – 1.80
  • InteriorVelvet, satin or EVA tray
  • Best forJewellery, watches, tech
Lid & base rigid boxCost-optimised

Lid & base rigid box

Two pieces, friction fit, nothing to break. Around 25–30% below a magnetic box at the same specification, which is why it is the structure we recommend for volume gifting programmes.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.20 – 1.80
  • ClosingFriction fit, optional ribbon
  • Best forVolume gifting, retail
Magnetic box with foam insert trayPremium

Magnetic box with foam insert tray

A magnetic rigid shell with a die-cut insert tray — EVA foam, velvet-wrapped foam or a folded paper platform — built to your product's own outline. The tray does the engineering work: it sets the presentation height, stops movement in transit and decides how the product reads when the lid comes off. Insert priced as a separate line.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • InsertFoam, velvet-wrapped or folded paper
  • Best forSets, jewellery, electronics
Foldable magnetic gift boxFreight saver

Foldable magnetic gift box

A collapsible version of our magnetic rigid box: the walls fold down and the base locks up, so assembled volume is not paid for in the container. Same reveal and same finishing menu as the standard magnetic box, with a dedicated folding die quoted as its own line — the unit price sits on the magnetic band.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • PackingShips flat, assembles on arrival
  • Best forExport volume, 3PL packing
Hexagon rigid gift boxShape-led

Hexagon rigid gift box

A six-sided rigid box: hexagonal base tray, hexagonal lid, magnets set into the angled walls so the closure stays invisible. The shell carries the magnetic band; the dedicated hexagonal die is a one-off tooling line. A shape-led box for brands whose product is round, faceted or simply hard to frame in a rectangle.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • StructureSix-sided, dedicated die
  • Best forCandles, honey, gift sets
Wine & spirits bottle boxBottle fit

Wine & spirits bottle box

A tall rigid box for a single bottle: friction-fit lid and base, with a cradle insert that holds the bottle at the shoulder and the base so it cannot move in transit. Priced on the lid & base band; the extra board a bottle box needs and the cradle insert are quoted as their own lines.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.20 – 1.80
  • InsertCradle holds base and shoulder
  • Best forWine, spirits, olive oil
Navy box with brushed metal edgeHouse sample

Navy box with brushed metal edge

Our own house box: a matte navy magnetic shell with a brushed-silver foil band stamped around the lid edge and our own mark printed on it. The photograph shows how your artwork would be printed and foiled, and the matching paper bag in it is quoted as its own line.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • FinishBrushed-silver foil edge band
  • Best forGifting, retail, box and bag sets
Navy box with gold foil logoHouse sample

Navy box with gold foil logo

The same navy shell with a single gold foil stamped mark instead of an edge band: one die, one stamping pass, and the lowest-cost way to put metal on a box. Foil is priced by stamped area, so the die and the coverage are quoted as their own lines.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.50 – 2.30
  • FinishGold hot foil stamp
  • Best forBeauty, jewellery, gifting
Cream box with gold edge trimHouse sample

Cream box with gold edge trim

Our own cream lid & base box: two rigid pieces with a friction fit and a narrow gold foil trim along the lid edge. Roughly 25–30% below a magnetic box at equal specification, with a magnetic closure upgrade quoted separately.

  • MOQ100 pcs
  • Indicative @500 pcs$1.20 – 1.80
  • StructureFriction-fit lid & base
  • Best forBridal, beauty, retail gifting

Structure 01

Magnetic closure: the reveal

A magnetic box is a rigid board shell with magnets set into the lid and the base, so the lid pulls shut and holds. Because the closure is invisible, the whole surface stays available for your artwork.

The structure works best when the box is opened in front of someone — a launch kit, a PR package, a bridal or corporate gift. It is the format most likely to be photographed, which is why beauty, fragrance and jewellery brands default to it.

  • Sizes built to your product, not to a stock die line
  • Ribbon pull tab, tab-and-slot or a simple lift-off lid
  • Foil, emboss, soft-touch lamination and spot UV all available
  • Insert options: EVA foam, velvet-wrapped tray, satin bed or folded paper

Sliding drawer rigid gift box with velvet interior for jewellery

Structure 02

Sliding drawer: product first, packaging second

The drawer slides out on a paper or board sleeve, presenting the product on a tray before any of the packaging structure is visible. For a ring, a watch or a small bottle, that sequencing does more for perceived value than any print.

Drawers are the hardest of the three structures to make well — a poorly built one jams, wobbles or drops. We build the drawer to a tolerance that survives transit, and we send you a sample so you can test the glide yourself.

  • Velvet, satin, suede-effect or foam interior
  • Ribbon or finger-pull opening, or a two-tier drawer stack
  • Deep, shallow and multi-compartment formats
  • Low unit cost at high volume; strong at 1,000 pcs and above

Structure 03

Lid & base: the volume workhorse

Two rigid pieces, one sitting inside the other with a friction fit. There is no magnet to align, no drawer to jam, and nothing that can fail in transit — which is exactly why it is cheaper and why it scales.

If you are producing 5,000 or 20,000 boxes for a retail or gifting programme, start here and spend the saved budget on finishing, where the customer actually sees the difference.

  • Roughly 25–30% below magnetic at equal specification
  • Optional ribbon, bow, belly band or sleeve
  • Same finishing menu as the magnetic range
  • Recommended for subscription, retail and corporate gifting at volume

Finishing

What finishing does to a rigid box

Each technique is priced as its own line, so you can decide where the budget goes.

Hot foil stamping
Luxury, jewellery, cosmetics

Hot foil stamping

Metallic foil pressed into the board under heat, leaving a crisp mark with a slight impression. Gold, silver, rose gold and holographic foils as standard.

Soft-touch lamination
Skincare, fashion, DTC

Soft-touch lamination

Velvet-matte surface with deep colour and no glare. Combine with foil or spot UV for a two-texture contrast that photographs beautifully.

Embossing, debossing and inserts
Candles, jewellery, premium unboxing

Embossing, debossing and inserts

A custom die raises or recesses your mark into the board, then the product sits in a tray cut to its own outline.

Specification

What actually moves the unit price

If you want to know why one quote comes back at $1.20 and another at $2.30 for a similar-looking box, it is almost always one of these seven variables.

Cost driverEffect on unit priceWhat it means
Board weight and thicknessModerate increaseHeavier greyboard adds rigidity, weight and cost.
Wrapping materialModerate increaseCoated paper, textured stock, linen and leatherette wraps price differently.
Foil stampingRises with coveragePriced by stamped area, not by number of logos.
Soft-touch or matte laminationSmall increaseA surface treatment over the printed wrap.
InsertLargest single driverA folded paper tray is cheapest; EVA foam and velvet-wrapped trays are the premium end.
Assembly routeModerateHand assembly costs more than machine assembly; complex structures are hand-built.
QuantityFalls steeply, then flattensUnit cost drops fastest between 100 and 1,000 pcs, then improves gradually.

Rigid box FAQ

Before you order a rigid box

The answers a supplier usually softens. We would rather you had them now.

What is the MOQ for custom rigid gift boxes?
100 pcs for magnetic, drawer and lid and base structures. The industry norm is usually 500–1,000 pcs, so a 100 pc start is a deliberate choice: it lets you validate the structure and finishing before committing to a large first run. Tooling is a one-off, so reorders do not repeat that cost.
Is a magnetic box worth the extra over a lid and base box?
It depends on where the box is used. A magnetic closure is roughly 25–30% more expensive at the same size and specification, and it buys a tactile snap and a controlled reveal. If the box is a gift or the centre of an unboxing video, that premium usually pays for itself. If it is a retail container produced in volume, a lid and base box delivers most of the perceived quality for less — many brands use lid and base for the standard line and magnetic for the gift line.
Can the boxes ship flat to reduce freight cost?
Yes for collapsible magnetic and some drawer structures. Assembled rigid boxes take up a lot of container volume, so a flat-packed version can move the landed cost meaningfully even though the unit price is similar. Ask us to quote both assembled and flat-packed versions with freight included, so you are comparing landed cost rather than ex-works price.
Can you print inside the box, and on the base?
Yes. Interior printing is common on magnetic and lid and base boxes — a printed message, a pattern or an unboxing instruction. Interior print is quoted as its own line because it is a separate pass through the press.
Do you make non-rectangular rigid boxes?
Yes. Hexagonal, heart, pyramid and gable structures are all producible, along with rounded corners and custom die-cut windows. Non-rectangular shapes need a dedicated die, so factor in tooling and expect a higher unit cost at low volumes.
