Fragrance is the one category where the packaging is designed outwards from the contents. A filled bottle is a few hundred grams of glass whose centre of gravity sits above its base, so the insert has to hold the neck rather than just the bottom — and whether the cap ships fitted decides the box height. Magnetic rigid boxes run $1.50 – 2.30 per piece at 500 pcs; lid and base runs $1.20 – 1.80.

Range
Fragrance is the one category where the packaging starts from the contents and works outwards. The bottle's centre of gravity, the neck diameter and whether the cap ships in the box decide the insert, the insert decides the box height, and the box height decides the carrier. Choosing the box first gets all four wrong.

Two rigid boards with magnets set into the lid and the base, wrapped edge to edge so the closure disappears and the whole surface stays available for your artwork.

The magnetic shell from our standard rigid range, with an insert die-cut to the product's own outline so nothing moves in transit and everything sits at the height you want it seen.

Two rigid pieces — a base tray and a lid that sits over it with a friction fit.

Same shell as our brushed-edge box; what changes is where the metal goes.

Our own cream box, built as a friction-fit lid and base rather than a magnetic shell — which is why it sits on the lower published band, indicative $1.20–1.80/pc at 500 pcs.

Printed art paper with a matte or soft-touch lamination, a folded and glued top edge, a board base and a ribbon handle threaded through a reinforced panel.
What this industry actually needs
Every other category starts with a product and finds a box. Fragrance starts with a heavy glass bottle whose centre of gravity sits above its base, and the whole structure has to answer to that before it answers to anything else.
A filled 50ml bottle is a few hundred grams of glass with a high centre of gravity. An insert that only cradles the base lets the bottle lean and strike the lid, which is how caps chip in transit. Constrain the neck or the shoulder as well, and the bottle stops being able to move at all.
Whether the cap ships fitted or separately is a marketing question with a structural answer. Fitted means a taller box, a taller insert and more shipped volume. Separate means a shorter box and a kitting step at the other end. The two versions are not interchangeable, and changing your mind late costs a new die.
In fragrance more than anywhere else, the opening is part of the product. A magnet releases with resistance and reads as weighty; a friction lid is slower and quieter. That difference is worth $0.30 a piece to some brands and worth nothing to others — which is a decision, not a default.
| The variable | What it changes | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Where the bottle is supported | The neck and shoulder, not the base alone. | A filled fragrance bottle is heavy glass with a high centre of gravity. A base-only cradle lets it lean and strike the lid, which is how caps chip in transit, so the insert should constrain the bottle around the neck or shoulder as well as underneath. |
| Whether the cap ships in the box | Changes the box height, and therefore the insert and the carrier. | If the cap travels fitted, the box has to clear it. If the cap is packed separately, the box can be shorter and the insert simpler, but someone has to fit it at the other end. This is usually the single biggest structural variable in a fragrance project and it is decided by a marketing question, not an engineering one. |
| Single bottle or a set | Changes the insert from a cavity to a tray. | A set — bottle plus travel spray, or bottle plus body product — needs a compartment layout, and the compartments must be sized from the largest item rather than the average. Ask for the full contents list before the insert is designed, not after. |
| Weight of the finished pack | Drives the board and the carrier. | Glass is heavy, and it is heavy before any packaging is added. Tell us the filled weight, not just the dimensions, because the board grade and the carrier spec both depend on it. |
| Closure and format | Indicative ex-works | When it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Magnetic rigid box | $1.50 – 2.30 @500 pcs | Opened in front of the recipient, and the one that reads as a gift rather than as a carton. The closure does the work: a magnet releases with resistance, which reads as quality. |
| Lid & base rigid box | $1.20 – 1.80 @500 pcs | A friction-fit lid gives a slower, quieter reveal and costs less. Where volume matters more than the moment of opening, this is the sensible tier. |
| Folding carton with an insert | $0.05 – 0.65 @500 pcs | Retail and travel-retail formats. The cheapest per piece and the easiest to ship, and the right answer when the carton is not part of the gift. |
| Carrier | $0.43 – 0.73 @500 pcs | Cheapest part of the order and the last thing touched. Worth specifying deliberately rather than defaulting, because it is the piece that walks out of the store. |
