Overview

About this kraft box

Kraft is not a finish applied to board; it is the board. Because the sheet is unbleached and uncoated, the box needs no lamination to look deliberate, which removes one process, one material and one recyclability problem from the price. Printing goes straight onto the fibre in water-based ink, and the grain of the board stays visible through it.

The trade-off is honest and worth stating up front: uncoated board marks more easily than a laminated sheet, it is not waterproof, and colour printed onto kraft sits darker and warmer than the same colour on white board. If your artwork assumes a clean white ground, this is the wrong box — and we will tell you so rather than print it and let you find out.

Window or no window

A die-cut window immediately ends the recycling story if it is a plastic film. We cut no window unless you ask, and if you ask we will quote it separately and flag the trade-off in writing.

Print coverage

Full coverage costs more than a spot print, and on kraft the difference is visible because the fibre shows through the gaps. Most briefs look better at one or two colours than at four.

Board grade

Lighter board lowers the piece price and the carton volume but loses the rigidity that lets a box stand up on a shelf. Tell us which matters and we will pick.

Before you order a kraft box

The three things that actually decide whether an uncoated kraft carton works.

Is a kraft box automatically recyclable?
The box is. What breaks recyclability is what gets added to it — a plastic window, a laminated film, a foil patch or a plastic-coated insert. We quote this box without any of those, and if you need one of them we will say plainly which part stops the claim.
Can I print four colours on uncoated kraft?
Yes, in water-based ink, but the result will look warmer and softer than the same artwork on coated white board, and fine reversed-out detail will fill in. We send a physical proof on your actual board rather than a screen PDF, because this is a material you have to see.
How does the price compare with a laminated carton?
It sits at the low end of the published $0.05–0.65 band at 500 pcs because there is one fewer process. If a quote for a comparable laminated carton comes in below it, the comparison is usually being made at a different board weight or a different quantity — ask us and we will normalise both.
