About this recycled kraft gift box

A rigid box is board wrapped in paper, so the eco version is not a new structure — it is a set of substitutions. Recycled greyboard for the shell, a recycled kraft wrap instead of a coated art paper, a paper ribbon instead of satin, and a moulded pulp or card insert instead of foam or PET.

Two of those substitutions are where eco gift boxes usually go wrong. The first is the closure: a magnetic box hides a magnet inside the board, which is metal in a paper stream, so a genuinely zero-waste box uses a lift-off lid. The second is foil — the metallic finish most gift boxes are judged on. Foil is a film transfer and foiled patches are normally not recoverable, so this range prints instead of foiling, and we would rather lose the brief than claim a recyclability that the finish contradicts.

Closure

Lift-off is the zero-waste answer and relies on the lid fit, which we control with the board thickness and the wrap. A magnetic closure is available and we will say plainly what it adds to the waste stream.

Wrap

Recycled kraft keeps the box in the paper stream. A coated wrap prints brand colours more accurately and takes it out; if colour accuracy is the priority, that is a legitimate choice and we will quote it as such.

Insert

Moulded pulp holds a heavy item and is compostable. A die-cut card platform is cheaper and lighter. Foam is the cheapest and is what we do not offer here.

FAQ

Before you order an eco gift box

The two questions that decide whether a rigid gift box can honestly call itself eco.

Can I still have a magnetic closure?

Yes, and it is a real aesthetic advantage — the closure is hidden and the box opens with a snap. But a magnet is metal bonded inside a paper shell, so a box with one is not plastic-free in the way a lift-off box is. Choose the hinge knowing the cost.

Can I have gold foil?

Foil is available across most of our range, but not on this series, because foiled patches are generally not recoverable in standard repulping and we will not print a recyclability claim on a box whose finish contradicts it. Metallic-look ink is possible and looks flatter — we will send a proof so you can judge.

Why is the MOQ lower than the other eco products?

Because rigid boxes are set up differently: the tooling is die-cut rather than printed-plate, so 100 pcs is a viable first order. The price shown is the 500 pc tier, and the 100 pc tier is quoted on request.
