Overview

About this subscription box with printed interior

This is a corrugated mailer produced by a different route. Instead of printing directly onto the board with flexo, a printed sheet is laminated onto the corrugated substrate, which is what allows photographic artwork, gradients and full-colour coverage on a box that is also strong enough to ship alone. That process is why the MOQ sits at 1,000 pcs: the sheet is printed and laminated before the board is die-cut and glued, so the setup is a larger commitment than a flexo pass. In exchange you get a box that can be designed like a brand asset inside and out — the interior flood, the printed insert card and a size matched to the assortment are the three things that make a customer photograph the box and post it.

It is the right format for a subscription programme or a D2C brand with a repeating assortment: the volume justifies the tooling and the setup, and consistency between runs is worth more than the last cent of unit cost. It is the wrong format for a first test. Below 1,000 pcs the litho route does not make economic sense, and if your assortment changes size from month to month, be careful: the box is right-sized to what you ship, so a changing assortment either needs a box that fits the largest month or a second size — and a second size is a second die and a second small print run, which is where budgets quietly break.

  • Litho-laminated board for full-colour, high-detail artwork on the exterior
  • Interior print on the surface the customer sees when the box opens
  • Sized to the monthly assortment, so the box does not ship air
  • Printed insert card and die-cut dividers quoted as their own lines
  • Specification held stable between runs, so a reorder skips re-approval

What you are ordering

ItemDetail

Variants

How subscription boxes are usually specified

Interior coverage and the insert are the two lines that decide whether this box does brand work or is simply a strong parcel.

Exterior print only, standard interior

The cheaper route with the same board and the same strength. Trade-off: the box loses the branded opening, which is the whole reason most brands move to this format.

Interior flood print

Full-coverage artwork on the inside. Trade-off: it is priced on area, so a flood costs materially more than a logo on the base — measure the value of both before you choose.

Printed insert card

A card with a message, a QR code or a promo. Trade-off: an extra component to place at packing, but usually the cheapest way to personalise a subscription run per month.

Die-cut dividers

Board compartments that keep the assortment apart instead of shifting in transit. Trade-off: cut to your components, so a change in assortment means a change in the die.

Tear-strip opening

Available on this specification where the channel needs a tamper-evident pack. Trade-off: again a dedicated die, and the opening is single-use.

Size variants on one artwork

Two sizes sharing one print sheet and one board specification, which is the cheapest way to cover a seasonal versus standard assortment. Trade-off: two dies and two quantities, each on its own tier.

Materials

Board, lamination and print coverage

On this format the print method is the material decision. Litho lamination is what buys you the interior artwork; the board grade underneath is chosen for what you ship.

These boxes are not food-contact packaging as standard. Where the assortment includes food or cosmetics, the board, coating and ink need a specification change and the destination market's declarations — tell us at brief stage and we will quote that route.

OptionWhat it means
E-flute with litho laminationThe standard for this format: a printed sheet laminated to corrugated board, which is what allows photographic artwork on a shippable box. Trade-off: the higher setup is why the MOQ is 1,000 pcs.
B-flute with litho laminationThe heavier route for multi-item or heavier assortments. Trade-off: more cost, more container volume and a slightly less refined printed surface.
White-top linerThe liner that keeps printed colour accurate on the board. Trade-off: a small cost premium over kraft, and kraft would change every colour in the artwork.
Inside flood printFull interior coverage, priced on the area printed. Trade-off: the most expensive print option on the box and the most visible — which is exactly why it is bought.
Water-based varnish or film laminationProtects the laminated surface through handling and stacking. Trade-off: film adds a material you may have to declare for a packaging claim; water-based is the default.
Recycled or FSC-certified board optionsAvailable where a retail listing or a claim requires certified fibre. Trade-off: recycled liner is slightly darker, so pale artwork and white areas read differently.

Best for

Where an inside-printed box does brand work

Beauty and skincare subscriptions

The category this format was built for: a repeating assortment, a photographic interior and a customer who posts the box. Consistency between monthly runs matters more than the unit price.

D2C brands with a signature box

Brands that ship the same product shape all year and treat the packaging as part of the product. A right-sized box means no void fill and no photograph of a half-empty parcel.

Curated and gift-by-post programmes

Where the box is the gift and the interior is the message — usually with a printed insert card and a divider.

Coffee, tea and pantry subscriptions

Recurring, light and consistent. E-flute is enough, and the box rarely needs more than a divider to hold the pack steady.

Small-batch and limited drops

Seasonal or limited ranges where the artwork changes between runs. Tell us the run count in advance — a versioned artwork plan is cheaper than a new specification every drop.

Sizing

Sizing a monthly assortment

A subscription box is sized from the assortment, and the assortment usually varies. The practical answer is to size the box for the largest month and add a divider or a card that fills the gap, rather than to buy two sizes and split your volume down the ladder. Give us the packed dimensions of a typical month and the extremes, and we will show you both options with the unit cost of each.

The indicator is quoted at the 1,000 pc tier — the ordering point this specification starts at. Interior coverage, insert cards, dividers and any size variant are quoted as their own lines, so the cost of the branding is visible next to the cost of the box.

DimensionGuidance
Size the biggest monthSize to the largest assortment and control the void with a divider, rather than buying two sizes and splitting the quantity — every size carries its own minimum and its own tier
Inside clearanceLeave clearance from the printed interior. A product rubbing on an inside flood marks both the print and the product in transit
Height and dimensional weightHeight is what carriers bill. A box that is 2cm too tall is a charge on every parcel for the life of the programme
Artwork versioningPlan the number of artwork versions before the run. Each print change is a setup, and a versioned plan costs far less than a new specification each month
Flat-packed supplyFlat-packed as standard, so a monthly programme can be packed at your site or at a 3PL without needing storage space for assembled boxes

FAQ

Questions about subscription boxes

This format is bought for the interior. The questions are usually about the minimum, the coverage and how the artwork changes.

Why is the minimum 1,000 pcs for this box?
Because of how it is made. The artwork is printed as a sheet and laminated to the corrugated board before cutting, so the setup is larger than a direct flexo pass on the board. Below 1,000 pcs the lamination setup is spread over too few boxes to make sense. If you want to test a size and an inside print before committing, the corrugated mailer at a 300 pc minimum is the better first order — same board family, direct print, no lamination.
Is the inside print worth the money?
Only you can price your own unboxing, but here is the honest case: the interior is the one surface the customer sees while the box is open and the one they photograph. It is bought as coverage, not as colour count, so a single-colour interior over the whole box costs more than a logo on the base — and for most brands the small logo on a clean interior outperforms a busy flood. We will quote both and let you decide.
When is this the wrong format?
Below 1,000 pcs per size, or when your assortment changes size significantly from month to month. Also when you need moisture or food-contact protection: this is a standard corrugated specification and both of those are specification changes with their own declarations. And if a channel requires a tamper-evident opening as well, the tear-strip die is a second tooling cost on top of the lamination setup — worth knowing before the artwork is locked.
Can I run different artwork on the inside each month?
The artwork can be versioned, but each version is a print setup, so it is a cost rather than a free change. The cheaper route most programmes take is one box specification with a printed insert card that carries the monthly message — the card is a fraction of the cost of re-running the box, and it can be produced closer to the send date. Tell us the run schedule at brief stage and we will quote the two routes side by side.

Corrugated Mailer BoxVolume driver

Corrugated Mailer Box

A one-piece corrugated box that closes without tape and opens without a knife, supplied flat so it costs almost nothing to ship or store. E-flute is the printed, foldable profile; B-flute is the stronger one for boxes that travel with little inside. This is the highest-repurchase line we make and one of the most competitive, so we hold a specification stable between runs — but it is a volume line with a moderate margin, and it only becomes a good one once the box carries your own artwork inside and is right-sized to the product.

Tear-Strip Mailer BoxTamper-evident

Tear-Strip Mailer Box

A corrugated mailer with a perforated tear strip built into the die, which gives the customer a single-pull opening and gives you a tamper-evident pack. Marketplaces, returns-heavy categories and subscription programmes ask for it, and it is the opening that makes an unboxing video look deliberate. The trade-off is honest: the strip needs its own die, the unit cost is higher than the self-locking version, and the opening is single-use — once it is torn, the box does not close again.

RSC Shipping BoxLanded cost

RSC Shipping Box

The cheapest box in this range and the least glamorous: a regular slotted container that gets your order to a fulfilment centre or a customer intact. It is bought for protection and dimensional weight, not for unboxing, and right-sizing it to your product and your pallet is usually worth more than any negotiation on the unit price. This is not a customer-facing box — if the customer sees the packaging, use a branded mailer inside it or instead of it.
