Overview

About this Christmas tote

Composition and palette first, because that is what the programme is bought for. The three colours that carry most Christmas ranges are a deep spruce green, a cranberry red and a warm ivory, and they work in two ways: as a repeating field (snowflake, pine sprig, tartan or a gift-wrap pattern printed edge to edge with your mark reversed out), or as a quieter body with one chest mark and a foil or embroidered motif. A border print along the top edge is the third route and the cheapest of the three to hold to register on a sewn bag. Whichever you choose, the pattern is printed to your die line, so tell us the body size before you finalise the repeat — a repeat that is set for the wrong width is a new screen, not an adjustment.

The economics are worth stating plainly. The cloth, not the artwork, still dominates the unit price: a 10oz body costs several times a 6oz promotional blank whatever is printed on it, so do not shrink the pattern to save money, specify the fabric. What the festive artwork does add is set-up — one screen per colour, a foil die if there is metal in the design, a digitised stitch file if there is embroidery — and all of it is amortised across the run. Festive multi-colour decoration is set up per colour and per artwork, so the run starts at 500 pcs per design and the set-up is amortised across it — the more you order, the lower the unit price. December is the busiest month in the factory calendar, so the order window matters more than the price: artwork approved in early August for sea freight, or early October if the goods fly.

  • 10oz / approx. 340 gsm cotton canvas, cut to your size, festive pattern printed to your artwork
  • Multi-colour screen print, gold or silver foil, embroidery and spot UV each quoted as their own line — no bundled decoration price
  • Festive minimum 500 pcs per design: press set-up amortised across the run, so the unit price falls as the quantity rises
  • Screens, foil dies and embroidery files are kept, so a repeat run in the same artwork skips the set-up
  • Planning window: artwork approved in early August lands in the US or EU ahead of the December shelf by sea

Variants

Configurations we build most often

All-over repeat pattern

A snowflake, pine or tartan field printed across the whole body. The most festive read and the most demanding to hold to register, because every panel is a separate print position. Best on a body with a flat front panel rather than deep gussets.

Chest mark with foil

One piece of artwork, one or two screens and one foil die. The lowest-cost way to look like a festive range, and the route most corporate programmes take. Foil is priced by stamped area, not by the number of logos.

Gift-with-purchase size

A smaller body for a single product — a candle, a jar, a boxed set — used at the till rather than carried to the car. Lower cloth cost per piece, and it packs into fewer cartons.

Advent, bundle and market size

A larger body with a longer handle drop for multi-item sets and Christmas market trade. Adds fabric and sewing, so it is quoted on the artwork rather than off a price list.

Materials

Materials and board

OptionWhat it means
10oz natural canvasWater-based ink sits on the cloth rather than on a transfer film, so ivory and light tones stay clean. The safest route for a full festive palette.
10oz dyed canvasDeep green, cranberry and navy bodies need a white underprint before the festive colours. One extra pass, quoted as its own line, and worth it when the body colour is part of the design.
12oz heavyweight canvasA heavier body for a bag the customer genuinely keeps. Adds fabric cost and carton volume; the print set-up is unchanged.
Recycled or organic cotton optionsAvailable against your specification. Ask for the current certificate for the exact fabric you are buying rather than for the factory as a whole.

Best for

Where this format earns its keep

Retail gift with purchase

A December bag handed over at the till turns a single item into a present and gets carried in public for the rest of the month.

Employee and corporate holiday gifting

One artwork per department or region, printed on the same body, packed and shipped to a list. Annual reorder, same screens.

Subscription box December drop

The one month of the year a subscription bag is kept rather than reused for groceries, which is exactly why the pattern earns its set-up.

Store, market and pop-up packaging

Retailers and market traders buy festive totes by the hundred for the season and often reorder mid-season, so keep the screens on file.

Sizing

Sizes and how we set them

DimensionGuidance
BodyStart from the product: a boxed set needs a body about 2cm larger all round than the box, and a bag carried at the till can be smaller than one carried home.
GussetA bottom gusset lets the bag stand on a counter; side and bottom gussets give depth for a boxed product. Each extra panel is fabric and sewing, quoted separately.
Handle drop180–250mm for shoulder carry, 90–120mm for a hand-held festive bag. Rope handles take a wider top fold than webbing.
Pattern scaleSet the repeat from the finished body width before the screens are made. Changing the repeat afterwards is a new set of screens, not an edit.

FAQ

Before you order a festive tote

The two questions every festive buyer asks, answered before you ask them.

Can different festive patterns share one screen set-up?
No, and this is the single most common misunderstanding in festive packaging. Screens, foil dies and embroidery files are artwork-specific: one screen per colour, one die per foil mark. What is shared is the physical set-up — the cutting die, the handle pattern and the sewing line are the same for every design on the same bag body, so a Christmas, an Easter and a Thanksgiving tote can all be built on one body and one tooling set. The practical answer is to run one festive body all year and change only the artwork; each artwork's set-up is paid once, and a reorder in the same artwork is reprinted with no set-up charge at all.
We are running late — can we still make Christmas?
Tell us the date you need the goods in your warehouse, not the date of the holiday, and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable. Production is 15–20 days for a printed tote and sea freight to the US or Europe runs 30–40 days, so an artwork approved in August lands comfortably and one approved in October does not go by sea. If the sea window has closed we will quote air freight (5–8 days in transit) on a reduced quantity, or print a plain tote with a festive printed belly band or sticker instead of a six-colour pattern — the band is quoted as its own line. What we will not do is promise a sea schedule that cannot land. December is the tightest month in the factory calendar, so the earlier you ask, the more options exist.
Why is the festive MOQ 500 pcs when a plain bag can start lower?
Because festive decoration is set up per colour and per artwork. Elsewhere on this site the entry level is 300 pcs for lighter structures such as paper bags and mailers, and 100 pcs for rigid boxes; a festive multi-colour print cannot be economical at that scale, because the screens and the press make-ready are the same whether you run 300 pieces or 3,000. At 500 pcs that set-up is amortised across the run; at 2,000 pcs the unit price is noticeably better, so the honest advice is to buy the run size you will actually sell rather than the smallest run we will take.
Do the festive colours themselves change the price?
The number of colours does; the shades do not. Each colour in a screen-printed pattern is a separate screen and a separate pass, so six colours cost more to set up than two, and foil or embroidery adds a die or a stitch file on top. Water-based inks on 10oz canvas are the standard route on natural cloth; a dark-dyed body needs a white underprint first. Send us the artwork and we will quote two print routes against it so you can see the difference in numbers rather than in adjectives.

Easter Canvas Tote BagSpring season

Easter Canvas Tote Bag

The spring version of the same cotton tote, built for egg hunts, gift-with-purchase offers and spring retail floors. Pastel and botanical artwork prints cleanly on natural 10oz canvas; a small chest mark, a botanical repeat or a block-colour body all work. Decorated runs start at 500 pcs per design because each colour and each die is set up once, and repeat orders reuse them free.

Thanksgiving Canvas Tote BagAutumn season

Thanksgiving Canvas Tote Bag

An autumn version of our standard printed tote, aimed at the US gifting season and at food, farm and grocery brands that sell through it. Warm mid-tone palettes print with fewer colours than a Christmas range, which keeps the set-up down, and the same body can be reordered for the rest of the year. Decorated runs start at 500 pcs per design; screens and dies are kept, so reorders skip the set-up.

Canvas Tote BagVolume line

Canvas Tote Bag

The default printed tote: 10oz cotton canvas, sized to your product, with the handle and print method chosen around how much weight it has to carry. This is the spec most brand retail and event programmes land on, and the point in the range where the extra fabric starts buying something a customer can feel.
