Overview

About this Christmas gift box

A magnetic box is the right structure for December because the closure is invisible: there is no ribbon to tie and no lid to align, so the entire wrapped surface is available for the festive artwork, and the box is photographed as often as it is opened. Deep spruce green, cranberry and matte navy are the wraps most programmes choose, either flooded solid with a single foiled mark, or printed with a repeated pattern — snowflake, pine, star or an art-deco tile — with the brand mark reversed out or stamped in gold or silver. Debossing the pattern instead of printing it is the quieter route and the one that photographs best on a matte lamination.

On cost, the structure is what you are buying and the festive decoration is what you choose on top. A plain magnetic box can start from 100 pcs; the festive version starts at 500 pcs because the wrap print, the foil die, the emboss die and the window all have set-up that only makes sense when it is spread across a run. Festive multi-colour decoration is set up per colour and per artwork, so the run starts at 500 pcs per design and the set-up is amortised across it — the more you order, the lower the unit price. If the budget is tight, print the festive pattern and keep the foil to one small mark: foil is priced by stamped area, and a 30mm mark costs a fraction of a full edge band. For December delivery by sea, artwork should be approved by early August.

  • Rigid magnetic shell with hidden magnets and a ribbon pull — nothing to tie, nothing to align
  • Festive wrap print, gold or silver foil, emboss and spot UV quoted as their own lines
  • Optional die-cut window with a PET or PLA film so the product is visible on the shelf
  • Festive minimum 500 pcs per design: print and die set-up amortised across the run
  • Inserts (foam, velvet-wrapped or folded paper) cut to your product and quoted separately

Variants

Configurations we build most often

Flooded wrap with a foiled mark

One colour across the whole shell and a single gold or silver stamp. The most photogenic option and the cheapest way to look expensive, because foil is priced by area rather than by logo count.

Repeated festive pattern

A snowflake, pine or tile repeat printed across lid and base. More print passes than a flooded wrap, and the pattern has to be set to the dieline so it breaks across the edges deliberately.

Debossed pattern, unprinted

The same repeat pressed into a matte-laminated wrap instead of printed. Subtle, textural, and usually cheaper than five or six printed colours.

Window box

A die-cut aperture with film so the product reads on the shelf unopened. Adds a cutting die and a film application step, both quoted as their own lines.

Materials

Materials and board

OptionWhat it means
Coated art paper wrapThe standard festive surface: takes dense print, foil and spot UV cleanly, and holds a saturated cranberry or spruce without mottling.
Textured or linen-effect wrapA visible grain under the print that suits debossing and reads as premium in the hand. Priced differently from a smooth coated wrap.
Soft-touch matte laminationA velvet-matte surface with almost no glare — the finish most often combined with a single foil mark. A small increase over standard lamination.
Greyboard weightHeavier board adds rigidity, weight and freight; for a festive box that is posted, ask about a foldable shell to reduce assembled volume.

Best for

Where this format earns its keep

Corporate and client gifting

A box that is opened in front of the recipient is the point. One festive artwork, one run, shipped against a distribution list.

Beauty, fragrance and candle sets

Magnetic shells with a foam or velvet tray hold a multi-item set at a fixed height so the reveal is the same in every box.

Premium retail and hospitality

Window and flooded-wrap versions sit on a counter or under a tree without a ribbon, which suits retailers packing to order.

Subscription and PR kits

Festive shells are reordered annually, so the print set-up is paid in year one and reused every December after that.

Sizing

Sizes, board and insert clearance

DimensionGuidance
Interior clearanceAllow 3–5mm around a rigid product so it is held rather than loose, and 5–8mm on a foam cut-out so the foam compresses.
DepthSet the depth from the product plus the insert, not from a stock box. Extra depth is board you pay for twice: once in material, once in freight.
Assembled or foldableAn assembled shell takes real container volume; a foldable version cuts that significantly at a similar unit price. Ask both versions quoted with freight.
Pattern registerA festive repeat has to be set to the dieline so it breaks across the edges by design. Send the artwork on the die line rather than as a flat panel illustration.

FAQ

Before you order a festive gift box

Set-up, timing and the answers that decide a December order.

Can different festive patterns share one set-up?
The structure, yes; the decoration, no. The cutting die that forms the shell, the greyboard and the wrapping set-up are the same for every artwork built on the same box size, so a Christmas, an Easter and a Thanksgiving version of one box share all of the tooling. What cannot be shared is anything that carries the image: the printed wrap, the foil die, the emboss die, the spot UV screen and any window aperture are specific to that artwork. Build a festive range on one box size and you pay tooling once, then buy artwork each season.
We only decided in October — is Christmas still possible?
Tell us the date the boxes have to be in your warehouse and we will tell you plainly whether it works. Production is 12–18 days after sample approval, samples take 3–5 days plus 1–3 days by courier, and sea freight to the US or Europe runs 30–40 days — so an August approval is comfortable and an October one is not going by sea. If the sea window has closed we will quote air freight (5–8 days in transit) on a reduced quantity, drop the foil or the window to save a set-up, or produce a plain shell with a printed festive belly band or sticker — each of those is quoted as its own line. We will not promise a sea schedule that cannot land.
Why does the festive box start at 500 pcs when the plain box starts at 100?
Because festive decoration is set up per colour and per artwork. A plain magnetic box can start from 100 pcs, and the entry level for lighter structures elsewhere on this site is 300 pcs for paper bags and mailers; a festive run has a printed wrap plus often a foil die, an emboss die or a window, and all of that set-up is spread across the run. At 500 pcs it is amortised sensibly; the bigger the run, the lower the unit price. Buy the quantity you expect to sell rather than the smallest run we will accept.
Does a window or a foil edge band cost much more than print?
Both are quoted separately so you can see the number before deciding. A window adds a cutting die and a film application step; a foil edge band is priced by stamped area, so a narrow band around a large lid costs more than a small mark on the same lid. Where the budget is limited, the highest-impact spend is usually a textured or soft-touch wrap plus one small foil mark, and the lowest-impact spend is a large foil area. Ask us to price two versions against the same artwork.

Magnetic Rigid Gift Box

A rigid greyboard shell with magnets set into lid and base, so the box pulls shut and holds with no visible closure.
